Back To Basics
I have been learning about code for a while now and have loved every second of it. Whenever I talk about coding, I noticed (more accurately, it was pointed out to me) that I talk far too much and far too fast about all the cool things I am learning. However, most people in my life are not software engineers nor do they know what I mean when I start yelling “What do you mean it's undefined???” or my “Axios call timed out”. And that’s totally fair, the coding life is not for everyone. So, when a friend of mine asked if I could teach him, I leapt at the chance.
I am finding that teaching someone coding is different than learning to code. Teaching has nuance, you can’t give too much, you can’t give too little. Too much and people shut down. Too little and they get bored. Finding that balance in teaching someone else has been an incredible challenge. I find myself getting excited to dig into the details, to find out more information. If I could encourage you, even if you are a student, even if you are just starting, teach someone else what you know. See what you can recall, talk about your experiences, explain your code. Who knows, you might learn something new.
